Telescopic Loading Bellows for Truck and Ship Loading

Telescopic loading bellow are specialized industrial equipment designed for the efficient, dust-free transfer of powdered or granular bulk solids from storage systems like silos, hoppers, or conveyors to vehicles, ships, or stockpiles. They are widely used in industries such as cement, mining, agriculture, food processing, and chemicals to handle materials like cement, fly ash, grains, sugar, or plastic pellets.

Key Features and Working Principle

Telescopic loading bellows operate by discharging bulk materials through a vertical column under gravity, while containing and collecting dust within the same enclosed system. The system is flexible to accommodate varying heights between the discharge point (e.g., silo outlet) and the loading point (e.g., truck or ship). A mechanical winch system adjusts the bellows' height, ensuring a closed, controlled passage for high-capacity loading. Dust is typically managed by integrated dust collection systems that vacuum fugitive dust and return it to the material stream, preventing waste and environmental pollution. MMSTACKER provides telescopic bellows for ship loaders and quarry conveyors for dust controlling. It also can fixed on screw ship unloader to load trucks directly.

The Process Working Principle Involves:

  • Lowering the Bellows: The bellows is lowered from a standby position until it reaches the target (e.g., truck bed, ship hold, or stockpile). A slack cable switch stops the descent when contact is made.
  • Material Discharge: The silo or hopper outlet valve opens, allowing material to flow freely through the bellows. Dust is contained by flexible skirts or dual-bellow configurations and extracted via a dust collector.
  • Automatic Adjustment: Level sensors monitor material levels and automatically retract the bellows as the pile grows, ensuring continuous flow without blockages.
  • Completion: Once loading is complete, the system closes the discharge valve, collects residual dust, and retracts the bellows to its standby position.

Types of Telescopic Loading Bellows

They are also called telescopic chute which are widely used in bulk material loading applications. MMSTACKER Telescopic Loading Bellows are categorized based on their application and configuration.

1. Open Loading Bellows

Used for loading flatbed trucks, ships, or stockpiles where materials are exposed to the environment. These feature flexible dust skirts to contain dust and are equipped with dust collection systems for high efficiency.

2. Closed Loading Bellows

Designed for tanker trucks, barges, or ships with enclosed containers. They use polyurethane-coated discharge cones to seal the vessel inlet, preventing dust emissions. A vacuum fan evacuates trapped air to enhance flow, and dust is filtered and returned to the load.

3. Combined Loading Bellows

Versatile systems equipped with both dust skirts and discharge cones, suitable for mixed fleets of open and closed vehicles.

Configurations and Components

  • Outer Bellow: Usually made of reinforced fabric, protects from dust and weather.
  • Inner Flow Channel: Carries material, often made of wear-resistant steel or polymer.
  • Telescopic Casing: Multiple steel or polymer cones/nested tubes that extend and retract during operation.
  • Winch System: Electric or pneumatic winch to extend/retract the bellow.
  • Dust Extraction System (optional): Vacuum lines to collect and return dust to the material flow.
  • Level Sensors / Position Sensors: Automatically stop the descent when the bellow reaches the material pile or truck floor.
  • Discharge Cone / Skirt: Ensures sealed contact with the truck or container to prevent leakage.

Applications of Loading Bellows

Telescopic loading bellows are used for materials such as:

  • Cement and Mining: Cement, fly ash, limestone, coal, alumina, bentonite, kaolin.
  • Agriculture and Food: Wheat, flour, sugar, corn, rice, animal feed, seeds.
  • Chemicals and Plastics: PVC, plastic pellets, urea, sodium sulfate.

They are installed under silos, hoppers, or at the end of conveyors (screw feeders, elevators, pneumatic systems) for loading into trucks, tankers, ships, or stockpiles.
